Colored Pencil Art Class Offered

  • January 20, 2011

Beginning and experienced artists will have a unique opportunity to learn the art of colored pencils from renowned artist Dean Rogers, in a very special workshop in Farmington Hills on Sunday, Jan. 23, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Stables Studio in Heritage Park.

Rogers is known for his astonishing colored pencil portraits, which startle viewers with their photographic quality, but yet emit a warm inner glow.

Dean will teach and demonstrate techniques such as layering, burnishing, and blending, with a focus on his signature style using highlight and shadow effects, and applying these to the different elements of portraiture. Paper will be provided; students will need to bring other supplies. A supply list is available at registration.

Tuition for the day-long workshop is $60; $50 for residents of Farmington and Farmington Hills. Registration is available on-line at recreg.fhgov.com, or in person at the Costick Center, 28600 W. Eleven Mile Road, between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
