Farmington Area Arts Commission Names High School Art Award Winners
The Farmington Area Arts Commission has announced winners of the 26th Annual High School Art Competition for students in the Farmington Hills and Farmington area.
Winners in the three-dimensional category:
First Place Jacquelyn Pegg, Farmington High School
Second Place Brooke Shepard, Farmington High School
Third Place Nicole Cischke, Farmington High School
Winners in the two-dimensional category:
First Place Jordan Berman, North Farmington High School
Second Place Rachel Mack, Mercy High School
Third Place Jillian Caverly, North Farmington High School
Winners in the photography category:
First Place Michelle Marinos, Farmington High School
Second Place Julianne Williams, Mercy High School
Third Place Michelle Scott, Farmington High School
Honorable mentions were awarded to the following students: Diana Naeem and Travis Melms from Harrison High School; Lauren Yellen, Jessica Wu, and Cameron Jenkins from North Farmington High School; and Genevieve Chiara from Mercy High School.
More than 170 pieces of two and three-dimensional art were submitted by high school students in the juried art contest. The contest was open to any students attending either private or public high schools in Farmington Hills. The 2012 juror of the contest was David Miller, owner of Millers Art Supplies.
Student winners will receive their awards as part of the Artist Awards Ceremony held Thursday, April 19 at the Costick Center, beginning at 6:30 pm.
Other awards will include the Farmington Art Commission Artist in Residence Awards and Distinguished Service to the Arts Awards; Honored Volunteer Awards; and Farmington Art Foundation Awards. The Awards Ceremony and Reception are open to the public.
Student winners will receive cash awards, which are $100 for first place, $75 for second, $50 for third, and $25 for honorable mention. The winning artwork will be displayed at the Costick Center on April 19 – 20 and at the Festival of the Arts, which takes place on Saturday, April 21 from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. The artwork will then be displayed at Millers Art Supply on Twelve Mile and Farmington Roads throughout April and May.
