Register Kids for Camp Riley, Summer Fun with Academics

  • June 16, 2012

Registration is open for Farmington Youth Assistance’s outdoor-based summer camp, Camp Riley, which runs 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. from June 18 to August 31 at Beechview Elementary or at the Farmington Family YMCA.

Facilitated with the help of the Farmington YMCA, Camp Riley lasts nine weeks and can accommodate 80 youth entering kindergarten through fourth grades in the fall.

Kids are assigned books based on a weekly theme and an integrated, interactive curriculum is tailored to their needs. In an end-of-year assessment during the 2011 camp, 75 percent of the 60 campers evaluated met academic achievement expectations in English, language arts and math, and 25 percent exceeded expectations.

Children also swim, play sports, participate in team building exercises and achieve recognition for displaying honesty, respect, responsibility and caring. Three days of the week are dedicated to field trips.

The camp is $135 per week and financial assistance is available to those who qualify. Participants must be currently enrolled in Farmington Public Schools. To register, contact the YMCA office at 248-553-4020.
