Sweet Dreamzzz Teaches Lanigan Kids About Good Sleep Habits

  • January 21, 2011

Volunteers from Sweet Dreamzzz, dressed in pajamas, brought important lessons about sleep to 300 Lanigan Elementary School 2nd-4th graders on Thursday, Jan. 20.

The students were taught the importance of sleep in an interactive program, then received a magnet summarizing the sleep tips. The goal of the Sweet Dreamzzz Sleep Enrichment Program is to improve the quality and quantity of sleep in children to improve their learning potential.

Lack of sleep is being linked to childhood obesity, attention deficit disorder, diabetes, heart disease and countless other health issues. In fact, research shows that vaccinations are 50% less effective if a child is sleep deprived immediately following the vaccination. The 45-minute Sleep Enrichment Program informs children on the importance of sleep in every aspect of their lives, especially in preparation for classroom learning.

The Farmington/Farmington Hills Foundation for Youth and Families provided Sweet Dreamzzz a $500 grant to cover the program.

Great school! Great non-profit! Thanks to the F/FH Foundation for bringing them together. My (Lanigan) daughter got a lot out of the program. The students are following up the assembly with a coin drive for Sweet Dreamzzz on this Friday at school.
