5 Things You Should Know This Weekend - April 20-22, 2012
If you love Earth Day and Mom-2-Mom Sales, you will love this weekend in Farmington and Farmington Hills.
Need toys or clothes for the kids? Then gear up to make the rounds of three Mom-2-Mom sales at Farmington area schools tomorrow.
Here's what else you should know about this weekend:
1. The weather
The weekend may start with clouds and rain, but look for the sun to peek out Saturday and Sunday. The National Weather Service predicts an 80 percent chance of rain between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. today, with wind gusts from 20-30 miles per hour. Temperatures will drop from a high today around 68 to highs around 48-52 degrees Saturday and Sunday; expect night-time lows in the 30s.
Take a "Small Step for Mother Earth" Walk to celebrate Earth Day today, starting at 12:30 p.m. in Heritage Park. Bring a picnic lunch and a reusable water bottle to the pavilion, then enjoy Earth Day games and help pick up trash during a 1.5 mile walk to Farmington Hills city hall, where you'll tour the LEED Gold-certified building. A shuttle will take you back to Heritage Park.
3. Mom-2-Mom Sales
Our Lady of Sorrows, Alameda Early Childhood Center and North Farmington High are all holding big sales on Saturday. For information about the hours for each sale and admission, check our events calendar. But we can tell you strollers are welcome at all three sales.
As part of the annual Festival of the Arts, Saturday is a free "Family Festival Day" at the Costick Center. There will be hands-on activities, artist demonstrations, live entertainment and an art exhibit and sale. Hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
5. Look ahead: City council meetings
Farmington council members will look at the proposed 2012-2013 budget Monday at 7 p.m. Farmington Hills city council has a 6 p.m. work session and 7:30 p.m. regular meeting scheduled for Monday as well. Agendas are not yet available for either meeting.
