5 Things You Should Know This Weekend: Sept. 30-Oct. 2

A car show, a 5k run and a talking dog are all on this weekend's calendar.

 

After a rainy week, we may see the sun on Saturday, but temperatures will take a nosedive. Overall, the weather should be clear for weekend activities:

1. The weather

Rain predicted Friday should taper off by evening and leave us with mostly clear skies through the weekend. According to the National Weather Service, there's another slight chance of showers on Sunday. It may be time to bring in the plants on your patio, as lows tonight and Saturday will dip into the 30s. Look for highs of 53 Friday, 49 Saturday and 58 Sunday.

2. Sports lineup

Harrison High celebrates homecoming this weekend, with a pep assembly Friday at 1:30 p.m. and a football game against Oak Park at 7 p.m. Here's the rest of the prep sports schedule:

3. Family activities

Hayride Central – Enjoy a hayride at Heritage Park Friday, with a wagon leaving every half hour, starting at 5:30 p.m. This event is for ages 3 and up and includes a cup of cider and the opportunity to roast marshmallows. Cost is $5 for residents, $8 for nonresidents.

Martha, the Talking Dog – Meet the beloved character from Martha Meddaugh's books Saturday, 2 p.m., at The Farmington Community Library Main Library. This event, including stories and activities, is free, and no registration is required.

4. Steppingstone/MOCSEM Benefit Car Show

In addition to a car show judged by students, activities will include "Whack-An-Import," raffles, door prizes, slot car races, arts and crafts, games and a radio-controlled race course. Open Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the benefit is held at Steppingstone School, 30250 Grand River Ave. in Farmington Hills. Admission is free.

5. Farmington Hills 5k Fall Classic Run

Runners ages 12 and older are invited to take part in this 3.1-mile run through beautiful Heritage Park on Sunday at 10 a.m. Registration the day of the event is $25.
