Farmington Hills city council holds a study session before their regular meeting tonight.

You can watch government in action during tonight's Farmington Hills city council 6 p.m. study session and 7:30 p.m. regular meeting. 

Here's what else you should know: 

1. The weather

Today there is a chance of showers  and possibly thunderstorms after 4 p.m. and a high around 78, according to the National Weather Service. Tonight, there is a chance of showers before 10 p.m.  with a low around 64. There is an 80 percent chance of more showers and a possible thunderstorm until 4 a.m. with a low around 64.

2. Lunch with the DIA

Enjoy a delicious lunch followed by a slide presentation on Merriment today, provided by the DIA Speaker’s Bureau at the . Advance registration is required for this activity for adults 50 and older, and the cost is $6. Call 248-473-1830.

4. Look ahead:

Bring your pre-schooler to Wednesday, 10:30 a.m., and you'll find a big, friendly group from Mayfair. The last playdate of the summer is Aug. 22, at Drake Sports Park. There's no charge. 

5. Look ahead: Learn About Online Hate Speech

The  is hosting extremist group expert Dr. Jack Kay for a discussion on “Hate Speech in Cyberspace" at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Kay will explain how the Internet has created a dramatic increase in terms of visibility and intensity of these acts. The event is free.
