5 Things You Should Know Today - Aug. 16, 2012
Rain is in the forecast, which could move tonight's Mass Transit concert in Farmington Hills indoors.
The National Weather Service predicts rain after 3 p.m. and into the evening hours, which could be bad news for tonight's outdoor concert in Farmington Hills.
Here's what else you should know:
1. The weather
Expect sun today and a high around 86, but keep your umbrella handy this afternoon and evening. The National Weather Service predicts a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 3 p.m., increasing to a 70 percent chance this evening. A low around 60 is expected.
2. Mass Transit free concert
Musicians Jim Pletcher (lead vocals), Mike Ferenz (guitar, vocals), Jim Bates (bass, vocals), Dan Denstaedt (keyboards, vocals), Bill Hamel (drums), George De La Rosa (percussion, vocals), AJ Sahukar (saxophones, vocals), Jamey Bostek (trumpet), and Time Discher (trombone, vocals) bring their unique, horn-based sound to either Heritage Park or the Costick Center today at 7 p.m., depending on the weather. Stay tuned – we'll let you know later today if the concert is moving indoors.
3. Queen of Hearts raffle drawing
Tonight's 9 p.m. drawing at John Cowley & Sons in Farmington could end with someone splitting a pot of around $10,000 with the Farmington Rotary and Xemplar clubs. Tickets for the fundraiser are $1 and can be purchased at the pub or from any club member.
4. Look ahead: Friday Film for seniors
Adults ages 50 and older can enjoy a showing of One for the Money, based on Janet Evanovich's mystery novel, on Friday at noon, at the Costick Center in Farmington Hills. Tickets are $5 in advance, $7 at the door, and include lunch, movie, popcorn, and candy. Call 248-473-1830 to learn more.
5. Look ahead: Labyrinth walks in Heritage Park
Life Coach Kathy Igoe will lead a meditative walk through an outdoor labyrinth at Heritage Park on Saturday at 8 a.m. This is intended to be a reflective and relaxing experience which slows the heart rate, quiets the mind, and inspires creative thinking. Cost is $15, and pre-registration is encouraged online at https://recreg.fhgov.com or at the Costick Center.
