As summer begins winding down, this first, full week of August starts with a chance to learn whether your dog would make a good pet therapy dog.
Here's what else you should know today:
1. The weather
Temperatures are back down in the low 80s, making this a perfectly sunny summer day. The National Weather Service predicts a low tonight around 59, under mostly clear skies.
2. Dr. Paws Pet Therapy evaluations

3. Cruis'n the Grand car show
Join the Grand River Cruisers Car Club at Village Commons shopping center today at 5 p.m. for this free car show, which features a DJ, 50/50 drawing and plenty of fun. Located nearby, Bellacino's offers meal discounts for all cruisers.
4. Look ahead: Farmington Hills Parks and Rec Commission meeting
This group will discuss fall programs and events at their meeting on Tuesday, 7:30 p.m., at the Costick Center. Got a question or concern about a park or special services program? They offer time for public comment. The full agenda is posted on the city's website.
5. Look ahead: Nardin Park Summer Concert Series Finale
The church's last concert of the summer has a fitting theme: "Live, Laugh, Love". Vocalist Kathy Gibson is described by reviewers as "an uncommonly diverse singer" and a talent reminiscent of "Helen O'Connell, Ella Fitzgerald or Marion Hutton". The concert is free, but donations to keep the series going will be accepted. Doors open at 7 p.m., the concert begins at 8 p.m. on Wednesday.
