5 Things You Should Know Today - Feb. 21, 2012
Watch pancakes fly tonight and help young people raise funds for a mission trip.
If you've never seen pancakes fly, there's an opportunity tonight in Farmington Hills. Here's what else you should know today:
1. The weather
Rain and a rain/snow combination are likely today, with a half-inch of snow acculumation possible during the day. The National Weather Service predicts a high around 41 and a low tonight around 32, with more rain and snow.
2. Updates from Capitol Hill
Seniors are encouraged to meet at the Costick Center today at 11:30 a.m., to hear an update from Congressman Gary Peters (D-9th District). Peters will also take questions and comments about issues that are important to you. There's no charge, and the event is open to the public.
"Chris Cakes" will be flinging all the pancakes you can catch today from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Orchard United Methodist Church in Farmington Hills. Purchase advance tickets at the church, $6 per person, $2 for children 4 and under, or at the door $6.50/$2.50. All proceeds support the church's Fusion Youth Mission Trip, a service project in summer 2012.
4. Look ahead: Oakland Job Hub
More than 50 companies, including several from Farmington Hills, will be looking for employees at a job fair held Thursday on the campus of Oakland University in Rochester. Read more about this event in a story posted on our site.
5. Look ahead: Be a Better Speaker
Join the Farmington Hills Windbaggers Toastmaster Club Thursday, 6:30 p.m., at Kerby's Koney Island on Haggerty and hone your public speaking, listening and leadership skills. There's no cost to attend and learn more about the group.
