5 Things You Should Know Today - Feb. 29, 2012
It's Leap Day, and there's a party at the Farmington Community Library.
Remember to celebrate this Leap Year's extra day today, and don't let the expected rain and sleet dampen your spirits:
1. The weather
The National Weather Service is predicting rain and sleet today before 1 p.m., with drizzle continuing into the afternoon and possibly through the evening. Today's high should be around 48, with a low tonight around 41. Little or no ice and snow accumulation is expected.
2. Leapin' Leap Year
Celebrate Leap Year with the Farmington Community Library Farmington branch today. They're hosting some fun activities starting at 1 p.m. No registration is required, and this event is free.
3. Painters Group for Seniors
Adults over 50 who enjoy painting are invited to the Costick Center at 1 p.m. today to work with members of the Farmington Artist Club, who offer tips, guidance, and suggestions. The Costick Center provides the paints, and participants should bring their own canvases. There's no charge.
4. Look ahead: Queen of Hearts Raffle Pot Grows
The Farmington Rotary Club's Queen of Hearts raffle has hit a total of $1,200, with another drawing scheduled Thursday, 9 p.m., at John Cowley & Sons in downtown Farmington. Buy a $1 ticket at the bar or from a Rotary club member for a chance at winning 60 percent of the total. The balance of the proceeds go to a variety of programs that support local youth. 5. Look ahead: Roosters ribbon cutting
