5 Things You Should Know Today - Mar. 1, 2012

Tonight, 8th graders and others in the community will take a 'Pledge for Success'.

 

If your child is headed for high school this fall, you may want to head over to Oakland Community College Orchard Ridge campus tonight. Here's what else you should know today:

1. The weather

There may be some early morning drizzle or snow that will gradually end as the day wears on. The National Weather Service predicts a high around 41, and a low tonight around 30. 

2. Pledge for Success

Farmington area 8th grade students and their parents are invited to “Your Success Starts Today,” held from 5:30 p.m.-8:45 p.m. today at the Oakland Community College Orchard Ridge Campus - J Building. The free program will include a resource fair, student speakers, raffle prizes and information – all geared toward helping students make a successful transition into high school. There's no charge to attend. 

3. Whose Wives Are They Anyway?

Tonight's 8 p.m. performance begins the last weekend of this hilarious production at the Farmington Players Barn theater. Read a synopsis of the story in an article on WXYZ Channel 7's website, and order your tickets through the Farmington Players website

4. Look ahead: Orchard Mini Olympics

Held Saturday from 9:15 a.m. to noon, this event will include shoe box racing, marker fencing and marshmallow slingshots, among other "sports". All families must pre-register, create a "Family Crest" for the Parade of Athletes, and are asked to bring cookies, cupcakes or a cake. 5. Look ahead: Alameda Open House

Alameda Early Childhood Center part of the Farmington Public Schools Early Childhood Program, will hold an Open House Saturday, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., to give parents a chance to check out what the program has to offer. To learn more, call 248-489-3808.
