5 Things You Should Know Today - May 17, 2012

Walk with a Doc today in Farmington Hills and learn about skin cancer signs and treatments.

 

It should be a glorious day for walkers who will be learning more today about skin cancer signs, prevention and treatments in Heritage Park. Here's what else you should know:

1. The weather

The National Weather Service predicts another glorious spring day, with a high around 69 and a low tonight around 49. What more can we say? Enjoy! 

2. Walk with a Doc

Botsford oncologist Savitha Balaraman, MD, will talk about the prevention and treatment of skin cancer today at noon. The walk through Heritage Park begins at the City of Farmington Hills Nature Discovery Center. For information or to register, call 877-477-Doc1 (3621), select option 1. And remember to bring sunscreen. 

3. Painting with a Twist ribbon cutting

The Greater Farmington Area Chamber of Commerce welcomes Farmington's newest business, Painting With a Twist, with a ribbon cutting ceremony today at 6 p.m. Stop by 33033 Grand River Ave., in the Downtown Farmington Center, there's no charge. 

4. Look ahead: Mexican Fiesta at Longacre House

Pre-registration is recommended for this event, which features “South of the Border” favorites like fajitas, burritos, and quesadillas, festive music and beverages. Cost is $15; pre-registration is recommended. Call 248-477-8404.

5. Look ahead: Harrison Spring Dance Concert

The talented dancers at Harrison present their final concert of the year Friday, 7:30 p.m., in the school auditorium. Purchase tickets online or at the door.
