After One Rehearsal, Vagina Monologues Opens Tonight

This one-night-only performance benefits Alternatives for Girls and the Michigan Women's Justice & Clemency Project.

While they've had their scripts for a while, performers in tonight's VDay benefit The Vagina Monologues had only one rehearsal this week – last night.

The 23 performers met at Smith Theater on at 6:30 Wednesday to run through their monologues, each of which is drawn from a series of interviews done with women from around the world. They range from almost painfully serious to wildly hilarious, but all focus on women's relationships with their most intimate parts.

About 250 tickets have been sold in advance; the theater seats 400, so tickets will also be available at the door. Admission for students (with ID) is $10, and for adults, $20. In addition to the performance, a Silent Witness display will be featured in the theater lobby. Each red sihouette in the display represents the life of a woman or child lost as a result of domestic violence.
