Arson Suspected in Farmington Hills House Fire
Authorities believe a house fire on Edgemoor was intentionally set.

A Sept. 28 house fire on Edgemoor, off Orchard Lake Rd. south of I-696 in Farmington Hills, was intentionally set, Farmington Hills Fire officials said in a press release issued Thursday.
Staff Lt. Jason Olszewski said the fire was started in the late evening. He said it appears someone poured an unknown accelerant through what may have been an old milk chute on the outside of the home. He said a neighbor quickly spotted the fire, limiting the damage.
A reward of up to $5,000 is available through the Michigan Arson Prevention Committee for information leading to the arrest or conviction of whoever is responsible for the fire.
"We're just looking for anyone who noticed anything in the area," Olszewski said, adding the reward "might help someone speak up."
Anyone with information should call the Farmington Hills Police Department at 248-871-2610 or the Michigan Arson Prevention Committee at 800-44-ARSON.

Farmington Hills of late is rife with crimes. We have had cars vandalized several times. And now with the elections, I have had to replace stolen signs from my property on more than one occasion. Frankly, all I see is this community becoming an offshoot of Southfield and Detroit. It's really too bad.

I am sorry that you have experienced the effects of rising crime rates throughout the region, but what exactly does "this community becoming an offshoot of Southfield and Detroit" mean? Additionally, our subdivision google list is in high gear reporting attempts to set cars on fire, vandalizm, break-ins and more. Used to be a wonderful area...

During tougher economic times crime rates are greater in every community. As some one that works in F. Hills and owns a home in F. Hills, I am glad to be a part of the community. My suggestion is to be part of the solution instead of just complaining about it. Ask yourself what do you do or CAN you do to strengthen your community and make it a better place.

I totally agree with you, Jen... Farmington Hills is a changing place, but change doesn't have to mean higher crime. People need to start being part of the solution instead of just packing up and moving west and complaining about it. I for one am gonna do my part to make sure Farmington Hills doesn't evolve into a crime ridden suburb like a handful of others in the area. I like this community, I don't want to see it go to the dogs...

I think you are all being unfair to Sue, she was merely stating that FH crime rate is up and she doesn't like it. I don't like it either and I live in Novi. This type of activity affects all our property values. Who wants to buy a house in a community with crime on the rise. You could not give me a house in Detroit (or any adjoining city), if I cannot feel safe and proud of city I call home, I don't want to live there.
