Autopsy Expected in Death of 82-Year-Old Farmington Hills Woman Found Tuesday
Police Chief Chuck Nebus says Marjorie Caruthers, 82, was found about 20 feet from the shoreline of a pond in the neighborhood where she lived.
Farmington Hills Police have identified the body of a woman found Tuesday morning in a pond behind Clear Lake Drive as that of 82-year-old Marjorie Caruthers.
Chief Chuck Nebus said Caruthers' body was found about 20 feet from the shoreline of a pond near the neighborhood where she lived. Nebus said her coat and medical identification were found on the shore; Caruthers was found in an area of the pond that was not frozen.
"We're calling it a death investigation," Nebus said, "but there is no indication that there's foul play."
Caruthers lived alone, her husband preceded her in death, and she was planning to move, he added.

I think Police Chief Charles Nebus made the right call in warranting a death investigation. I seriously doubt that Marjorie Caruthers would kill herself, given her obvious intentions of moving. People generally do not make plans they do not intend to carry out. I feel this matter is worth looking into, despite her age and the possibility of her having medical conditions which could have caused her confusion, and ultimately resulted in her death. All too often, incidents such as this are merely swept under the rug. Everyone's life has value, and further investigation into this matter should continue, as Chief Nebus indicated. Our society is filled with deranged individuals who prey on the elderly and weak. I am glad I am strong and
not susceptible to the unanticipaed, and/or planned attacks on women in our society.
Although this matter is still undervestigation, it would not surprise me if this is just another homicide. Time will tell. At least Marjorie is being afforded the benefit of the doubt.
