Catalytic Converter Thefts Spark Farmington Hills Police Alert

Vehicles that sit high, like trucks and SUVs, are particularly vulnerable, authorities warn in a Nixle.com alert.

The Farmington Hills Police Department issued a Nixle.com alert Monday warning about multiple thefts of catalytic converters from vehicles.

The alert indicated that this type of crime has become a problem across metro Detroit, particularly at apartment complexes, businesses and small industrial complexes. Thefts typically occur on trucks and SUVs, "because criminals can easily access the under-carriage of the vehicle and quickly remove the converters", the alert warned.

Anyone who sees suspicious activity should immediately contact Farmington Hills Police, by calling 911.
