Cipriano Classic 5K Benefit Starts at Farmington Family YMCA
Register by May 25 to guarantee your t-shirt from a June 8 run/walk for the Farmington Hills family devastated by an April 16 assault.
A registration deadline for the June 8 run/walk to benefit the Cipriano family is fast approaching.
The Cipriano Classic 5K Fun Run and Walk, slated Friday, June 8, 6:30 p.m. at the Farmington Family YMCA in Farmington Hills, will raise funds to benefit the family of Farmington Hills resident Bob Cipriano, who was killed April 16. His wife, Rose, and 17-year-old son, Salvatore, were also injured in the brutal attack. Children Tanner, 17, and Isabella, 8, escaped injury and are currently staying with relatives. The Ciprianos' 19-year-old son, Tucker, remains jailed in connection with the crimes.
Participants in the 5K who register by May 25 are guaranteed a race t-shirt. Registration is $25 or $30 the day of the race.
“The event is truly a grassroots effort to unite the community," co-chair Jenny Birmelin said. "It started as an idea from one of Rose’s neighbors and quickly took hold in the hearts of many whom then formed the event committee."
The race t-shirt color is white and was specifically chosen as a sign of hope, for healing and for love to conquer, Birmelin said.
“We are grateful beyond words for everyone supporting and loving our family, even those who don’t know us,” Beth Trahan, Rose Cipriano’s sister, said. “Bob enjoyed running and was known by the high school teams he coached for running his players. If he was with us, I know he would be leading the run and encouraging everyone to give it their best.”
The event, which is open to all ages, starts at 6:30 p.m. with a welcome announcement and group warm-up and stretching. The race officially begins at 7 p.m. from the YMCA parking lot. Participants can walk or run through the scenic community course.
Registration is available on-line at active.com and at, or by mail to, the Farmington Family YMCA, 28100 Farmington Road, Farmington Hills, MI, 48334. The paper entry can be downloaded and printed from Everal Race Management.
Donations to the Cipriano Children’s Trust Fund can also be made on the active.com race registration page.
