Crime Report: Armed Robber Strikes CVS on Middlebelt in Farmington Hills

The following arrest information was supplied by the Farmington Public Safety Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

The manager and a clerk at a CVS on Middlebelt told Farmington Hills Police that an armed robber tied them up Saturday morning and took about $15,000 from an unlocked store safe.

According to the report, police responded to the 911 call at 7:23 a.m. The employees told police the man was 25-35 years old, 5 feet 8 to 5 feet 10 inches tall, 160 pounds, wearing a gray ski mask, dark gray hooded jacket with a horizontal stripe across the upper back, dark gray pants with vertical stripes on the outside of each leg, and black shoes. The clerk told police the man pointed a gun at her and forced her into the store office, where the manager was working. The report indicated the employees' hands were not tightly bound, and they were able to work loose after the man left. A K-9 team followed a track south to Shiawassee, then east and ended at a nearby apartment complex.

Thefts from vehicles

  • Residents on Plum Brook Drive, Winchester, Trailwood Court and Maywood Court called police Friday morning to report thefts from vehicles parked at their residences. According to the report, among the items taken were iPods, a wallet and GPS unit.
  • A tape recorder, wallet and cellphone were taken Jan. 31 from a vehicle parked in the driveway on Harvard Court. According to the report, the vehicle owner believes the theft occurred sometime between the night of Jan. 30 and the morning of Jan. 31.

Breaking and entering

A resident of an apartment building on Partridge Lane called police Thursday after someone attempted to steal a safe from his home. According to the report, a downstairs neighbor heard a loud thump coming from the apartment and spotted a man running in the hallway and out the building. The safe was left on the floor just inside the apartment's front door. The resident, who told police he and his roommate have medical marijuana cards, said 2 grams of marijuana was missing from a closet.

Vehicles stolen, recovered

  • A representative from the Land Rover dealership on Grand River called police late Saturday morning after workers noticed a discrepancy with a vehicle identification number (VIN). According to the report, the Range Rover was brought in for an oil change, and workers discovered that the dashboard and chassis VINs did not match. A check on the numbers showed the chassis number was attached to a vehicle stolen in Hazel Park. The Sterling Heights couple who brought the vehicle in told police it had been purchased from a private party contacted through Craigslist.com. The vehicle was confiscated.
  • A man who left a 2008 BMW 328i running Saturday afternoon as he picked up a few items at a gas station on Grand River walked out of the store to watch the vehicle being driven away. According to the report, the man's driver's license, cellphone and $200 cash were in the vehicle.

Narcotics possession arrest

A 31-year-old Wixom man faces charges of narcotics and narcotics paraphernalia possession following a traffic stop around 5:30 p.m. Saturday at M-5 and Halsted. According to the report, an officer stopped the vehicle because of black smoke coming from the muffler. A search of the vehicle uncovered two marijuana pipes and a bag of marijuana in the front center console, the report said. In addition to the narcotics charges, the driver was ticketed for a defective muffler and having no proof of insurance or registration.

According to the report, the woman told police she was on her way home from a party and could not describe the accident. Her 5-year-old son was also in the vehicle, the report said. A portable breath test measured her blood-alcohol content at 0.09, which is above the 0.08 legal limit. The woman was taken into custody and later released on bond. Her son was cared for by officers until his father arrived.

According to the report, the driver sped up as the officer followed him on Orchard Lake Road, traveling 60 miles per hour in a 45-mph zone, then turned onto Bond and into a driveway on Green Acres Drive. A portable breath test showed the man's blood alcohol was 0.15, which is nearly twice the 0.08 legal limit. He told police he is just a few credits away from an associate degree in criminal justice.
  • A 30-year-old Columbus, MI, woman faces charges of driving under the influence of narcotics after officers found her slumped in the driver's seat of a running vehicle parked on Argonne Street on Thursday afternoon. According to the report, a citizen called police after trying to wake the woman, who had a GPS unit sitting on her lap and a burning cigarette in her hand. The report said that when she regained consciousness, she told police she had been on her way to a doctor's appointment in West Bloomfield to treat an ankle injury. The report indicated that police found five bottles of a prescription pain medication in the vehicle. The woman was taken to Botsford Hospital.
