Crime Report: Bike Helmet Taken at Downtown Farmington Library

The following arrest information was supplied by the Farmington Public Safety Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

A Farmington Hills man told a  officer March 26 that his blue bike helmet was taken after he accidentally left it behind at the Farmington Community Library Farmington branch.

According to the report, the man told police he had been using a library computer and left without his helmet. He quickly realized he had forgotten it, but when he returned a few minutes later, it was gone. 

Drunken driving arrests

A 48-year-old Farmington Hills man faces charges of driving under the influence and obstructing a police officer, following an early morning traffic stop at Grand River and Drake on March 22. According to the report, an officer stopped the vehicle for speeding and noticed a strong odor of intoxicants as he spoke with the driver. The report indicated that the driver told the officer he spoke no English and became combative while resisting arrest. A bystander who witnessed the incident helped the officer by holding down the driver's legs while the officer applied handcuffs. A warrant was obtained for a blood sample to determine the man's blood alcohol level, the report indicated.

A 21-year-old Westland man faces a charge of driving under the influence after his vehicle was stopped at Grand River and Chatham Hills Dr. March 20, because the driver's side headlight was out. According to the report, the officer noticed an odor of intoxicants, and a portable breath test showed the man's blood alcohol level was .10, which is more than the .08 legal limit. In addition to the alcohol-related charge, the driver was ticketed for the equipment violation. 

A 51-year-old Farmington Hills woman stopped at Nine Mile and Farmington Roads around 2:10 a.m. on March 16 faces a charge of driving under the influence. According to the report, an officer on patrol watched the driver stop in a turn lane when the green arrow signal appeared, and then proceed with the left turn on a solid red signal. A portable breath test showed the driver's blood alcohol was .10, which is more than the .08 legal limit.

A 25-year-old Farmington woman faces a charge of driving under the influence, after her vehicle was stopped at Grand River and Orchard Lake shortly before 1 a.m. on March 16. According to the report, an officer saw the driver speeding and drifting on the road and noticed a strong odor of intoxicants when he spoke with her. The report indicated the woman vomited repeatedly, in the officer's car and after she was brought to the Public Safety Department. A portable breath test registered her blood alcohol at .194, which is more than twice the .08 legal limit. 

Skateboarding

A 15-year-old Farmington youth had his skateboard confiscated for 48 hours, after an officer spotted him skateboarding and making obscene gestures with a glo-stick at around 9:40 p.m. on March 17. According to the report, the officer stopped the teen at Grand River and Warner and warned that he would receive a citation if he was seen skateboarding again. The activity is not allowed in downtown Farmington.

Narcotics arrest

A 26-year-old Lisle, IL man faces charges of disorderly conduct, possession of narcotics paraphernalia and marijuana, after a citizen reported he was attempting to get into a vehicle in a downtown parking lot, while highly intoxicated. According to the report, an officer spotted a marijuana pipe and marijuana in plain view inside the vehicle as he spoke with the man. A portable breath test measured the man's blood alcohol level at .22, and the witness told police he saw the man urinate in the parking lot before getting into the vehicle.
