Demolition has begun on William Grace Elementary, the last of four Farmington Public Schools buildings to be demolished this year.

As another school year begins, the final chapter is being written on four Farmington Public Schools buildings scheduled for demolition this summer.

William Grace Elementary on Shiawassee in Farmington Hills is the last building to be taken down; demolition started in late August. Crews began work on Wooddale Elementary the first week in July, on Flanders Elementary in mid-July and on Fairview Early Childhood Center the first week in August.

A fifth closed building, Eagle Elementary at 14 Mile and Middlebelt, remains untouched. It has been sold to the Islamic Cultural Association in Franklin; however, two district residents filed a lawsuit on July 29 to stop the sale.

The district has also closed the Maxfield Training Center on Thomas St. in Farmington, which once housed administrative offices. The building now provides storage space for items from the closed schools that will be re-purposed in other buildings.
