Kids launch corporate ducks during Sunday's Rubber Duck Race at Shiawassee Park in Farmington. The event raised money for the Farmington-Farmington Hills Foundation for Youth and Families.

About 3,000 little rubber ducks floated down the Rouge River in Shiawassee Park today, winning a Brighton resident $50 a week in groceries for the next year.

Foundation director Eunice Jeffries said she expects the annual Rubber Duck Race will raise about $10,000 for the Farmington-Farmington Hills Community Foundation, when all is said and done. The organization awards grants to local nonprofits, schools and civic groups.

Karen LaPointe won the grand prize; nine others took home prizes as well. Numbers on the ducks corresponded to tickets sold throughout the community over the past several months.

More than 30 corporate-sponsored ducks also took to the water for bragging rights, with North Congregational Church and Busch's Fresh Food Market and Basement Burger Bar finishing in the top three spots.

The afternoon event featured a performance from School of Rock students and free scoops of Hudsonville ice cream.

"It went very well," Jeffries said. "I think the biggest part that amazed me was how every corporate sponsor offered to make my job easier."

Jeffries said many people volunteered to help, and she even found support during Saturday's Founders Festival parade.

"It was a big rush for me personally," she said. "People were literally stopping me to buy tickets along the parade route."

Other prize winners were:

2nd - Michelle Robinson of Ferndale, overnight accommodations and breakfast once a month for a year from Courtyard by Marriott of Farmington Hills
