This election cycle, Farmington and Farmington Hills residents have given more, in larger contributions, to Republican candidate Mitt Romney, but President Barak Obama has picked up more contributions from both cities.
According to Federal Election Commission records, Farmington residents have made 112 contributions totalling nearly $25,000 to Obama; nine exceeded $1,000. Romney has received three contributions from one Farmington resident, totalling $750.
Romney did much better in Farmington Hills, out-earning Obama by about $13,000. Romney took in $93,000 from 106 contributors, including two $5,000 donations and 40 donations of at least $1,000.
Obama took in just over $79,000 in Farmington Hills, from more than 625 contributors. Only 16 contributions were $1,000 or more, including seven at $2,500.
All this information and more is in an interactive database Patch created so you can see how much your Farmington and Farmington Hills neighbors have donated to the presidential campaign—and to which candidate they’re writing their checks. We’ve also included records for many communities across southeastern Michigan, so if you want to see who from Rochester or Brighton contributed to campaigns, go right ahead.
It's important to note that while a vote for a candidate is secret, a donation to a campaign is public record and open to public scrutiny. Federal election law requires campaigns to regularly report donations and contributors. The information in the database was downloaded from the Federal Election Commission’s website. The data is based on quarterly reports and is current through July. The FEC data will be updated in mid-October. We'll update this database when new information is available.
