West Bloomfield Township Police officers took an assault report from a West Bloomfield High School student who said another student used an ethnic slur and a derrogatory comment about homosexuals while punching him at a community basketball event Saturday, reports said. The victim, a 16-year-old West Bloomfield resident, came to police headquarters with his parents on Feb. 16 and said he was punched during an altercation with a 17-year-old boy during a league event at West Bloomfield High School at about 10:30 a.m., Lt. Tim Diamond said.
Birmingham Police officers helped narrowly avert what could have been a tragic accident Tuesday night on Webster, pulling a mother and her three-year-old daughter from a home full of smoke. According to police reports, officers were first called to the scene around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, responding to a complaint about a barking dog on the 1300 block of Webster. Upon arrival, Officers Rebekah Springer and Tony Giannola saw smoke issuing from a home. No one answered the door, reports state.
After forcing their way into the home, police found the 31-year-old woman and her three-year-old daughter asleep despite the smoke filling the house. Police say a pot of rice had been left burning on the stove, with the stove set to high. Both the woman and her daughter received medical treatment by paramedics from the Birmingham Fire Department, though both were unharmed.
A man pulled over on Six Mile Road east of Brander in Northville Township Feb. 15, following a report that he had brandished a knife, faces narcotics-related charges, according to a Northville Township Department of Public Safety report. Felony traffic stop procedures were performed, and the driver, an 18-year-old man from Northville, was taken into custody without incident, the report said. An officer later searched the car and found a baggie of marijuana, a marijuana grinder, a pipe and brass kunckles.
Plymouth Township Police responded Feb. 15 to CVS, 1400 S. Sheldon Road in Plymouth Township for a report of a woman stealing about 10 bottles of premium vodka from the store, according to a police report. A CVS employee told police he was working at the register when he saw a woman exit the store with a large black bag or purse, when she set off the store’s theft alarm.
