Farmington Area Artists Featured in OCC Women's Art Exhibition

The juried "From Our Perspectives" exhibition opens Sept. 27 on the Farmington Hills campus.

Kathleen Boettcher of Farmington Hills and Farmington resident Sandra Shelly have had their artworks selected for the Womencenter of 's 22nd annual "From Our Perspectives" national women's art exhibition. 

Boettcher's acrylic painting “Work in Progress/Woman as Artist” and Shelly's 3-dimensional work "Circus Dreams" will be on display during the juried exhibition, which runs Sept. 27-Oct. 26 at OCC Orchard Ridge Campus’ Smith Theatre Gallery in Farmington Hills.

An opening reception planned Sept. 27, 7 p.m., unveils 34 of the 300 works of art entered from women artists nationwide. The 34 pieces are in a variety of media including acrylic, oil, textile and clay, photography, ink, pencil, metal, watercolor, and various mixed media and found objects. Artists in the show are from states across the nation.

This year’s juror, Margi Weir, has been honored with the prize for Best Work on Paper in the first Southwest Biennial of the Albuquerque Museum in 2006 and Best of Show in New Directions in Fiber at CORE New Art Space, Denver, CO in 2004. She has had many solo exhibitions, and Las Cruces Museum of Art hosted a retrospective of her work in 2009.

Weir moved to Detroit, Michigan in 2009 to join the Wayne State University Faculty as an Assistant Professor of Painting and Drawing.
