As you're flying around Farmington tomorrow, be on the lookout for fairy doors. 

These tiny portals will be carefully concealed inside or outside local businesses, waiting to be found by participants in a free Fairy Door Scavenger Hunt. The event begins at Off the Beaten Path Bookstore & Café, where you can pick up the hunt sheet and your first clue between noon and 11:00 p.m. on Thursday or Friday.

Store owner Salathiel Palland said the Fairy Door scavenger hunt is designed to be "multigenerational". Clues are written as poems, and each one leads the team to the next door. 

Palland said 18 businesses will have doors, and hunters who also spend $25 or more with the business will be eligible to win additional prizes. She and Diane Rothman, owner of The Sacred Sage started talking about doing the event late last year and literally put it together in a matter of weeks, along with Michelle Hinds of The Vines flower and garden shop.

"We were really pleased with the reaction," Palland said. 

In addition to the Fairy Door hunt, there will be a Faerie Gathering on Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., with vendors of all things faerie, facepainters, a gaming room and performers, along with a display from the City of Farmington Hills Nature Discovery Center. A Fairy Tea Party begins at 1 p.m., and an adult (21 and older) Faerie Ball with a cash bar, light hors d'oeuvres, and a costume contest, is slated for 7 p.m.

You can purchase a $15 pass for all daytime events (excluding the tea), a $30 pass for the daytime events and the Faerie Ball, or a $10 ticket for the Faerie Tea at any of the three sponsoring stores, on-site the day of the event, or at farmingtonfaeriegathering.com.
