Farmington Hills Man Arraigned on Charges Tied to Monday Home Invasion

Terry Lamont Mays, 19, faces charges of armed robbery, home invasion and possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

A 19-year-old Farmington Hills man has been arraigned in connection with Monday's armed home invasion on Cora St. in Farmington Hills.

According to Farmington Hills Police (FHPD), Terry Lamont Mays was arraigned today by 47th District Court Judge James Brady on one count each of armed robbery and home invasion, and two counts of possessing a firearm while committing a felony.

Brady set a $100,000 cash or surety bond; Mays next appears in court on Aug. 22, for a preliminary examination conference.

According to a police report, Monday's incident began when a homeowner on Cora answered a knock at her door. She told police that she opened the front door just a crack, and a man wearing a short-sleeved shirt and faded black or gray pants asked for a woman who did not live in the home.

After the woman talked briefly to the man, she closed the door and got ready for work. When she later opened the door between her home and garage, she saw a second man, who was eventually arrested, standing in her garage, pointing a handgun at her head. He motioned for her to be quiet, and she quickly shut and locked the door, then ran to another room and called 911, the report indicated.

Police confronted the two men on Orchard Lake Rd., and the men ran into the subdivision on the east side of Orchard Lake, south of 10 Mile. Farmington Hills and Farmington Public Safety officers, assisted by an Oakland County Sheriff’s Department helicopter, searched the area.

One of the men was caught at that time, and officers recovered a bag and the suspected handgun used during the incident, according to information provided by FHPD.

The second suspect, who remains at large, is described as a black man in his 20s, approximately six feet tall, medium build, wearing a blue, short-sleeved shirt that may have some black on the sleeves and black pants. Anyone who sees the man is asked to call 911; if you have information to share, call the police command desk, 248-871-2610.
