Farmington Hills Ranks Among Nation's Safest Cities
The report issued by CQ Press and Sage Publications shows the city's ranking has dropped slightly from the 2012 report.

Although it has slipped a little in the rankings, Farmington Hills remains among the safest cities in Michigan and across the U.S., based on an annual national ranking.
According to a city press release, Farmington Hills was the 52nd safest among 432 cities listed in a report issued last week by CQ Press and Sage Publications. Rankings are based on 2011 crime data, compiled in the F.B.I’s Uniform Crime Reports for six crime categories: murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, and motor vehicle theft.
Of Michigan cities with populations over 75,000, Farmington Hills ranked behind Canton Township (33rd), Sterling Heights (34th) and Troy (36th), and ahead of Livonia (70th) and Ann Arbor (80th) in the top 100.
Last year, the city was ranked third state-wide and 46th across the nation.
According to the release, Group A offenses, the crime category used to compile rankings, decreased in 2011 by 16.6 percent, with overall criminal activity decreasing by 11.1 percent.
High profile cases in 2011 included two murder-suicides, an armed robbery at Comerica Bank and a string of pizza parlor robberies solved with the arrest of suspects just two hours after the first incident occurred.
The release credited "close working relationships with all sectors of the local government and the residents" as critical to maintaining the safety and security of the community.

It is nice to know that Farmington Hills ranks as among the nation's safest cities. I credit this notion to the dedication and diligence of the Farmington Hills Police Department, and their excellent community relations. As a long-time resident of Farmington Hills, I have always received prompt response time and follow-up of police matters that have affected me and/or my property. Living in such a safe community is comforting to me, yet I realize that I must never be lax in crime prevention matters. You can never be too safe nowadays. Crime is inevitable wherever one may reside. I am fortunate to live in a fine community who prioritizes public safety and creates a nice environment for businesses and individuals to thrive. Together, citizens and the Police can work together to maintain such a safe environment, and rid our society of undesirables (i.e. criminals), or at least minimize their negative impact on the quality of life citizens enjoy. There will always be, however, garbage to be picked up off the street. F.H.P.D. does address such matters in a most appropriate manner. I am glad to reside in Farmington Hills, where police protection is at its best. Thank you, for all the police presence in my very own neighborhood. I can walk the street at night without imminent fear of being assaulted, raped, and/or robbed. Not everyone can say the same, particularly in neighborhoods where crime is rampant, and murder is no stranger.
