Farmington Trash Picker Finds Guns in Box of Books
The man tells police that he picked up the box in an area near Kenbrook School.
A Farmington resident got quite a surprise as he went through a box of books left out on trash day in Farmington Hills.
According to a Farmington Hills Police report, the man told police on Monday that he picked up the box while trash picking near Kenbrook Elementary School about four weeks ago. The box sat in his garage for several weeks before he finally went through it and found the two handguns at the bottom.
The report indicated that the 6-shot revolver and semi-automatic were in working order and were confiscated. The man told police he could not remember exactly where he picked up the box, but he was willing to work with investigators to find the location.

Someone was probably just disposing of the guns in the most convenient way he and/or she could think of. Most non-professionals resort to such measures, not realizing that the FBI and other law enforcement agencies look first in the trash, hoping to find evidence they can use to prosecute individuals who have broken the law. Discovering the guns comes as no surprise to me, as "throw-aways" are routinely discarded in an unscrupulous manner by the inexperienced criminal. The trash tells an awful lot about a person. Just ask a cop.
