In Brief: New Recycling Bins Arrive, Upcoming Blood Drive
Here's a summary of the Farmington Hills City Council meeting on Monday.
The Farmington Hills City Council approved six consent agenda items Monday night. The City was also awarded the Charlemagne Award from the Michigan Association of Code Enforcement Officers for the City's support of the organization's goals and commitment to code enforcement issues.
Among other issues:
Recycling Bins Distributed
City Manager Steve Brock said all residents should have their new recycling carts by the end of the week. The old recycling bins will be taken for recycling if they are placed on the curb. If residents do not want to recycle their old bins, they can donate them to the schools, he said.
Red Cross Blood Drive
Anthony Manns, American Red Cross Donor Resource Representative, presented information on the "Battle of the Badges" Blood Drive. The drive will be Aug. 16. at the Costick Activities Center. Mayor Barry Brickner volunteered to donate blood and encouraged council members and everyone to participate.
Grant for Tree Planting
All council members voted in favor of an application to the Michigan Department of Natural Resources for a Community Forestry Grant, presented by city planner Ed Gardiner. The grant will go toward purchasing and planting trees within the public right-of-way, like public sidewalks, and at selected parks.
Upcoming meeting
The next meeting is Monday, Aug. 16, at 7:30 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers.

Connie, the only drop-off I know of is the recycling bins. That must have been some dream!
