JR3's Plans a Memorial Parade Barbecue

Stop by the new party store for a hot dog and a look at their stock of craft beer and wine.

Last summer, John Roehrig drove through Farmington and spotted a "For Lease" sign on what was once Sammy's Party Store, at Grand River and Power Roads.

"When I was younger, I used to love to come in to Sammy's," said Roehrig, whose family leased the building and opened JR3's Party Store in January.

The Roehrig family has been in the party store business since purchasing one in Wayne six years ago. The name JR3's represents the fact that three people in the family have the initials "JR"—but Roehrig said his sister just had a son and named him Jacob.

"But I'm not changing the name again," he joked.

Business at JR3's was slow to start, because the store initially did not have a license to sell alcohol. That arrived in April, and since then, things have picked up. The store specializes in craft beer and wine, and also offers traditional party store fare, such as lottery tickets, soft drinks and snacks.

Roehrig will be manning a tent and barbecue grill, offering hot dogs, chips and bottled water for $2 during Monday morning's Memorial Day parade, which travels right past the store. He'll also be handing out fliers with special offers.

JR3's is located at 32330 Grand River Ave. Regular store hours are Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-11 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m.-11 p.m. For information, call 248-987-6174, or visit their Facebook page for more information.
