LOC Federal Credit Union Employees Give Day of Service to Sweet Dreamzzz
The Farmington Hills nonprofit provides sleep education and kits to teach children about good sleep habits.
On Nov. 11, Sweet Dreamzzz in Farmington Hills welcomed 30 LOC Federal Credit Union employees who signed up a month in advance to volunteer with the nonprofit, which helps children “get A’s and B’s by getting more ZZZs”.
According to a Sweet Dreamzzz press release, LOC Federal Credit Union encourages employees to get involved in the community. On Veteran's Day, employees, including the President and Executive Vice President, take part in a mandatory work day to volunteer in the community.
“LOC Federal Credit Union is committed to giving back to the community in many ways, and several years ago, we made the decision to close our offices on Veterans Day and add to our current volunteer commitments," said Debbie Vigliarolo, Vice President Sales and Operations - Oakland County. "Arrangements were made with several organizations for our employees to volunteer their time on that day as they could share their skills, passion and time to help make a difference.”
The volunteers packed sleep kits for Sweet Dreamzzz’ R.E.M.™ Sleep Program, and then stuffed and labeled over 800 letters for an upcoming mailing.
“We are so grateful for LOC’s commitment to giving back," Sweet Dreamzzz Executive Director Nancy Maxwell said. "Their support was a huge help.”
Sweet Dreamzzz, Inc. educates at-risk children and their families on the importance of sleep and gives them bedtime essentials so they can feel rested and ready to learn. The R.E.M.™ (Rest. Educate. Motivate.) Sleep Program brings warmth and comfort, as well as vital information, children need to ensure a good night’s rest. It starts with a 30-minute presentation educating the children on the importance of sleep and good sleep hygiene habits. After the presentation, each child receives a sleep kit, consisting of a sleeping bag, nightshirt, socks, toothbrush, toothpaste, stuffed animal, a R.E.M. activity book, crayons and more.
Sweet Dreamzzz counts on volunteers from the community to help with collections of items for the sleep kits, packing the kits, stuffing and labeling envelopes for mailing, fundraising and event help. They also have trained volunteers who administer the sleep education portion of our programs, Sleeper Teachers. To volunteer, call 248-478-3242, or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
