Matt Prentice Resignation Puts Planned Farmington Hills Eatery Morels in Jeopardy

If you've been eagerly awaiting the re-creation of Morels restaurant on Northwestern Highway in Farmington Hills, you may be in for some disappointment.
Matt Prentice, who last month announced the restaurant's opening, has resigned from his position as company president of Matt Prentice Group, the Detroit Free Press reports. With a new name – Epicurean Group – and new leadership, the company may not continue with the project.
Prentice told Farmington-Farmington Hills Patch last month that the site for his new restaurant, a former Macaroni Grill, was "a perfect 10." However, the Free Press reported, unforseen problems with the building led to a disagreement between Prentice and company owner and CEO Stanley B. Dickson Jr.
Prentice had planned to open Morels, with a Michigan-centered menu, by March 31 and had planned to start hiring some of the 100 employees needed to open the restaurant around March 1.
Dickson told the Free Press the Morels project "will not go forward until we do a thorough investigation."

This really sucks. I am a big fan of Prentice and his restaurants. I was really looking forward to trying this place.

Very sorry to hear this news. Love Matt Prentice and miss Morels. It was our favorite anniversary spot, and was so looking forward to it reopening nearby.

after 3 years of working for matt prentice at 2 different locations, It was a great dissapointment that he shut the doors with no notice! Not only did he leave entire staff left without jobs, but he did it in the most heartles and discraseful way ever!! He sent his mgt in on 4th of july weekend to let us know that we desirved a break and would be closing early to allow the staf to get out for the night and enjoy the holiday. They were very clear that we should not take advantage of the kind gesture, by making sure we all were in for our am shift on time and ready to work. However, returning in the next morning we all found that the store was closed! We were asked to help with boxing and cleaning for 10$ an hr. As much as most didn't want to do so it was at least a little money to help till we got anothre job. As if it wasnt bad enough how he handled this difficult situation, he didn't pay us our last check including the money for helping close and box up store!! I will never support any of his restraunts and happy to see anything he dose fail!!

Kudo's to Morel's!!! Let's me know the economy is turning around. For those whose responses was negative I would suggest you look at the positivity of re-opening a business in this economy. JOB'S (the good thing about at least the employee's are aware).
