The National Weather Service (NWS) warns that thunderstorms this evening could bring high winds, hail and heavy downpours to Oakland, Wayne and Washtenaw counties. 

In a special weather statement issued at 5:24 p.m., the NWS said a nearly stationary storm located 4 miles south of Novi may also bring occasional cloud to ground lightning. Because the storm appears to be slow-moving, the statement warns, "the prolonged heavy rain will lead to ponding of water on area roads". 

Also, 30-mile-per-hour winds may cause small objects to blow around, and the NWS advises residents to seek shelter in a sturdy structure until the storm has passed.
