New Farmington Restaurant Serves Up Mexican Food, Cooked to Order
Chulbu'ul opens with a menu that includes burritos, tacos, salads and more, made while you watch.
After months of construction and preparation, Chulbu'ul Mexican Grill opened Friday on Grand River in Farmington.
The small building next door to Grand One Hour Cleaners has undergone extensive renovations over the past year. The open layout offers customers the opportunity to watch while their food is being prepared.
Manager Emad AlBayrouti said all of the ingredients, from vegetables to grilled meats, are prepared fresh every day.
"Our recipes are not spicy, but they can be, by order," he said, noting the restaurant offers five types of salsa.
The menu includes more than a half-dozen kinds of burritos, burrito bowls, salads, quesadillas and tacos. Prices range from $6.25 to $6.75 for regular menu items; $3.25 to $3.75 for kids' menu items.
"With our menu, you pick what you want and build on it," said Sean Khan, son of owner Zafar Khan. "Our prices are not very expensive. It's a good value, but it's still fresh, homemade Mexican food."
Khan said the restaurant's name is pronounced like "chili bowl". What does it mean? Roughly translated, he said, it's: "Eat your beans, to the last bean."
The restaurant has a few vegetarian offerings, and a kids' menu. Seating is limited, as is on-site parking. Serving lunch and dinner, Chulbu'ul is open Monday-Saturday, 11 a.m.-10 p.m. and Sunday, 11 a.m.-8 p.m. To learn more, call 248-893-7777 or visit www.chulbuul.com.

I'm happy to see another Mex place in town - we'll have to try it. I wonder if the restaurant name will hinder their success - hard to read and pronounce.

If their investment in the building is any indication, they are committed to doing things right. I wish them luck, and will be stopping in soon.!

No idea, but so disappointing to see something open and shut so fast in our town : (

Got a chance to try them once - what we had was pretty good. It's puzzling that it bit the dust in just a month! You're right about it being disappointing, with so many empty stores downtown, one wonders what it's going to take to get viable, sustainable businesses here. A lot of money has been spent (DDA, city), and continues to be, with very limited success. Sad, and frustrating.

I'm not saying that you must be Mexican to own a Mexican restaurant, but it might help!
