OCC Womencenter Presents Self Defense Workshop Sept. 29
The class teaches approaches to preventing an attack, along with fight techniques.
A “Sexual Assault Prevention and Self Defense for Women” workshop will be offered at Oakland Community College’s Orchard Ridge Campus in Farmington Hills, Saturday, Sept. 29, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Designed to increase knowledge and self-confidence, the workshop provides common sense protection strategies for preventing attack, as well as effective fight and escape techniques for use in case of assault. Self-defense expert Jaye Spiro, who holds a sixth-degree black belt in Karate, conducts the nationally-known, self-defense program.
Women ages 13 years and over, of all sizes and fitness abilities, are encouraged to attend. Mothers and daughters are welcome, as are young women preparing for, or attending college or study abroad.
The workshop fee is $40, and pre-registration is required. Participants should wear comfortable clothing and bring a lunch and water.
“Sexual Assault Prevention and Self Defense for Women” is sponsored by the Womencenter, an OCC facility that provides educational and supportive resources for area women.
