The first-ever Pizza Palooza had 12 pizza restuarants competing Sunday to determine the best pizza in Farmington and Farmington Hills.

Winners were:

Bella Vita - Judge's Choice, 1st place

Hungry Howie's - Judge's Choice, 2nd place

Tomatoes Apizza - People's Choice, 1st place

Papa Romano's - People's Choice, 2nd place

The event was the brain child of Farmington Hills Department of Special Services programmer David Miller, who wanted to bring together local restaurants in a cool, family-oriented event. Four judges – Farmington-Farmington Hills Patch editor Joni Hubred-Golden, Farmington Observer editor Stacey Jenkins, and Farmington Press reporter David Wallace – named first and second place winners. Two People's Choice awards were also part of the all-you-can-eat event.

More than 125 people attended, from as far away as Ypsilanti. Children enjoyed face painting and games, coordinated by both the Department of Special Services and the Michigan chapter of Au Pair in America.

The Department of Special Services' next event, the annual Boo Bash, will be held Saturday, Oct. 15. To register, visit the Costick Center, call 248-473-1800, or register on-line at fhgov.com
