Farmington Central graduates end their high school careers with a Thursday graduation ceremony at Farmington High.

From the beginning of Thursday's graduation ceremony, the Farmington Central High community acknowledged their ranks were not complete.

Principal Pat Karas called for moment of silence shortly after students entered the Farmington High School auditorium to remember Jonathan Hoffman, who was killed in late May. Hoffman's diploma was awarded posthumously to his family.

Hoffman's friend of four years Max Dashevsky, 17, of Farmington Hills picked up the diploma, to a huge round of applause.

"It's saddening, it's depressing," he said after the ceremony. "But I'm glad to know that he graduated and that people will remember him."

Karas said of the 47 seniors, 18 girls and 29 boys, some would enter the work force, some would serve in the U.S. Armed Forces and others would be heading off to college. "After tonight, though, these seniors will be graduates of Farmington Central High School and proud Cougars," she added.
