Swing City Big Band Brings Popular Sound to Downtown Farmington

This week's free Rhythmz in Riley Park concert features a classic sound.

Friday night's Rhythmz in concert features a band that shows what the "big" in big band really means.

Swing City Big Band, a 16-piece ensemble, returns to downtown Farmington with a classic sound that continues to be popular with music lovers of all ages. Younger crowds have taken to the sounds of swing and run with it – just drive past the on Thursday nights this summer, where a few hundred young people swing dance the night away. 

According to a release from the , the band's repertoire features big brass and the sultry sounds of salsa, hits from Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman and Tommy Dorsey, plus big-band versions of modern pop and rock hits to liven up the night.

The free concert starts at 7 p.m.; bring a lawn chair or blanket to Riley Park, along with a picnic dinner, if you wish.

Parking is available near the park, as well as south of , east of and north of , across Grand River from Riley Park. The church also serves as the concert’s rain location.
