The Amazing Clark Entertains Young Fans
On a warm Wednesday night, 400 people watch a magic and puppet show in downtown Farmington.
The Amazing Clark, a magician and puppeteer, delighted an audience of around 400 parents, grandparents and children at Family Fun in Riley Park Wedesday night, in downtown Farmington.
Eugene Clark, 45, is a resident of Oxford and said he learned his craft from his parents, who were also entertainers, puppeteers and magicians. You might say Clark has been in the "family business" since he was 10 years old.
"I've been doing this 35-some-odd years," he said after the 7 p.m. show. "I loved it as a kid. I thought it was just going to be a hobby, but it turned into a job."
Because he does what he loves, he said, his job doesn't feel at all like work.
Marie Showich-Gallup, children's librarian at the Farmington Community Library Farmington branch, said Wednesday night's crowd was twice as large as usual. She credited the warm, sunny weather for the big turn-out. The library teams up with the Farmington Downtown Development Authority to offer five family events each summer, she said.
"We like to be out in the community, and we like to offer families fun things to do," she said.
The next Family Fun in Riley Park will be held July 20, 7 p.m. The Candy Band, a group of rockin' moms, will play. For more information about the events, visit downtownfarmington.org or farmlib.org
The Amazing Clark performs in downtown Farmington again on June 15 during the Downtown Farmington Founders Festival. He'll do several shows during the day; for a complete schedule of entertainment, visit foundersfestival.com
