Tickets for the Feb. 10 Farmington Community Library I Geek Oscar Shorts Red Carpet Event at the Farmington Civic Theater go on sale today, at the Main Library and Farmington branch.
The event officially kicks off "I Geek the Library," a year-long initiative designed to raise awareness about the library and what it brings to the community. The word "geek" is used as a verb, meaning:
- To love, to enjoy, to celebrate, to have an intense passion for.
- To express interest in.
- To possess a large amount of knowledge in.
- To promote.
Community members are encouraged to visit igeekfcl.wordpress.com and submit a statement about what they "geek", and a number of other events are planned during the year.
There are only 275 tickets available for the Red Carpet event, at $15 a person and $25 a couple. Everyone is encouraged to dress for the occasion; the evening starts at 6:30 p.m. at Mike Greer Photography, where hors d'oeuvres will be served, followed by a showing of the Oscar-nominated short films at 7:30 p.m.
Proceeds from the event will beneft the Friends of the Library, which provides funds for books, technology, programs and other library needs.
