Valentine's Day Volunteering: Join a Civic Group
Learn what good you can do with the Jaycees and Farmington Rotary Club.
A traditional Valentine's Day might include a fancy dinner, flowers, candy and other romantic gestures.
But if you're looking for activities that take you off the beaten path, Farmington-Farmington Hills Patch is bringing you a week's worth of options to help you plan a creative celebration. Today's suggestion is:
Service
When someone says the word "romance", you probably don't think about community service. But getting involved with a civic organization – and doing it together – is a great way to show you care about your sweetie and your community.
As it happens, you have the opportunity on Feb. 14 to learn more about three local groups:
- Farmington Rotary Club
This group meets at 11:45 a.m. on Tuesdays at Orchard United Methodist Church. Their Valentine's Day lunch gives you a double dose of community spirit, as the guest speaker will be Major Marlys Anderson of the Salvation Army. Contact Phil Abraham if you'd like to attend, 248-757-1865 or pabraham@farmingtonrotaryclub.org.
- Farmington Area Jaycees
If you're an adult 21-40 years of age, stop by Farmington Hills City Hall around 6:30 p.m. Feb. 14 and meet this group. After a meet and greet, they'll discuss upcoming events and hear from State Rep. Vicki Barnett (D-37th District). You're also encouraged to bring your favorite Valentine's Day cookie or dessert.
