UPDATED: Winter Storm Closes Farmington Public, Private Schools Friday
Scores of school districts in southeast Michigan closed on Friday, after a heavy overnight snowfall – and more snow is on the way.
Farmington Public Schools students have their second snow day of 2013, as a wintry weather mix dumped about four inches of snow over the metro area overnight.
Our Lady of Sorrows School is also closed. Schoolhouse Montessori Academy announced on Facebook that all of its schools will be closed Friday. All Oakland Community College campuses, include Orchard Ridge in Farmington Hills, are closed today, according to the school's Facebook page. Wayne State University's Oakland Center campus in Farmington Hills is closed today.
Because Farmington Public Schools closed today, all activities and athletic events are also cancelled, according to the district's policy. In addition, the North Farmington High Winter Carnival, slated Saturday, has also been cancelled.
More wet, heavy snow is expected through Friday morning, as the area remains under a winter weather advisory, according to the National Weather Service. Snow covered and icy roads have led to multiple accidents, and more than 400 schools in Oakland, Wayne and Macomb counties closed for the day, according to local television station reports.
Today's high is expected to reach 31 degrees.
