5 October Activities in Farmington Hills for the Over 50 Crowd

Kick up your heels, get organized and learn sign language at the Costick Center.

Farmington-area residents ages 50 and older can take advantage of more than half a dozen programs and activities at the Costick Center in Farmington Hills in October. 

Here are five we found intriguing: 

1. First Friday Ballroom Dancing

Dance to music of the Mike Wolverton Band on Friday, Oct. 4, 3 p.m.-6 p.m. All levels of experience, singles and couples are welcome. A buffet dinner is included. Call 248-473-1830 for ticket and other information. 

2. Home Sweet Home

On Oct. 8, 10:30 a.m., a panel of professionals will discuss how to safely stay in your home, and plan for care and costs. There's no charge for the event or lunch after the program. Call 248-473-1830 to sign up.

3. Sign Language Class

This free, 6-week class starts Oct. 8 and will cover the alphabet, some numbers, signs for food, colors, weather, general and basic conversations. Call 248-473-1830 to sign up.

4. 1950s Sock Hop

Come dressed in 1950’s style outfits Oct. 25, 11 a.m.-3 p.m., and enjoy a special meal, entertainment, prizes, dancing to a live band, and a costume contest. Register by Oct. 21; call 248-473-1830 to learn more.

5. Get Organized

Join professional organizer Theresa Brune of Simplify It, LLC, at 10 a.m. on Oct. 30, as she teaches pain-free techniques for getting organized for the holidays and beyond. Fee is $5.
