Students to Compete for Cash Prizes in Farmington Musicale Awards Program

Applications are available now for the competition, which is open to 7th-12th grade music students.

Music students in Farmington and Farmington Hills will vie for cash prizes during the Farmington Musicale Awards for Musical Excellence competition, held March 15 at Nardin Park United Methodist Church in Farmington Hills.

Applications are being distributed this week to the music departments in all Farmington-area middle and high schools. The form is also available at farmingtonmusicale.com. Applications must be completed and returned by Feb. 28.

The contest is open to 7th-12th grade students who attend Farmington public or private schools, and to those whose live in Farmington or Farmington Hills but attend school elsewhere.

Students will compete in these categories: Piano, grades 7-8, 9-10, 11-12; Instrumental, grades 7-8, 9-10, 11-12; Vocal, grades 10-12. Cash awards may be given in each age division, and a special award will be given to the best pianist in the competition regardless of the age of the performer.

First place winners will perform their solos in 3 p.m. recital on March 23, at St. John Lutheran Church. Last year's performers were Christine Overman, Veronica Tchernychouk, Ayaka Toda, Benjamin Argiroff-Flood, Jonathan Huang, Christy Champnella and Jerusha Taylor.
