Agency Will Hold Hearing to Get Feedback on Senior Services Spending Plan

A local agency is looking for feedback on its spending plan for vital services like Meals on Wheels, adult day care, and in-home care services. It's holding a hearing on May 28 that will give the public a voice in how funds are spent.

The Area Agency on Aging 1-B (AAA 1-B) is holding a hearing to get feedback on how it plans to spend federal and state funding for senior services during the 2015 fiscal year, which will begin on October 1, 2014 and end September 30, 2015. The AAA 1-B serves seniors in six counties in southeast Michigan, including Oakland County. The hearing will give the public a chance to review and comment on a draft of its Area Implementation Plan for the 2015 fiscal year. The plan outlines how funding will be spent on senior services in the region. These services include Meals on Wheels, adult day services programs and in-home care for seniors who are having trouble caring for themselves. The hearing will provide a valuable opportunity for people to have a voice in how funding for seniors is spent.

The hearing will be conducted at the AAA 1-B’s Southfield office on Wednesday, May 28 from 9:30 – 11 a.m. The AAA 1-B Southfield office is located at 29100 Northwestern Highway, Suite 400, Southfield, MI 48034. Seniors, family members caring for an older loved one, elected officials, advocates and other interested parties are invited to attend the hearing to review and comment on the draft plan.

Interested parties can attend the hearing in person or may participate by phone by dialing a conference telephone line at 641-715-3840. The access code for the conference line is 1042980#.  The AAA 1-B will also accept written comments through May 30.  Written comments may be mailed or delivered to the AAA 1-B Southfield office, submitted at the hearing or emailed to Amanda D’Angelo, Area Agency on Aging 1-B manager of compliance & regulatory performance, at ad’angelo@aaa1b.com. People are encouraged to review the plan in advance. The draft of the Area Implementation Plan for fiscal year 2015 will be available for review on the Area Agency on Aging 1-B website (www.aaa1b.com) beginning May 13.
