Botsford Commons Lantern Launch Honors Friends, Family

Residents and staff at the Farmington Hills facility are celebrating National Assisted Living Week.

Residents at Botsford Commons Senior Community remembered and honored family and friends Tuesday by releasing sky lanterns at dusk from the facility parking lot.

Held in cooperation with Residential Home Health and Residential Hospice, the launch was part of Botsford's National Assisted Living Week celebration. Barb Smith, who is coordinating the week's events, said other activities will include a family ice cream social and a fashion show that will feature residents as models. Each will carry something hand-made, and those items will be given away in a drawing.

"The theme for the week is 'Homemade Happiness'," Smith said, "celebrating the relationships that make this a home."

Botsford Commons assisted living facility is home to more than 50 people. Residents receive services from other providers, including Senior Helpers and Residential Home Health. Botsford also offers a program called "Bridge to Home," Smith said, for patients who are in rehabilitation but not yet ready to go back to their own homes.
