Downtown Farmington Ice Rink Waits for Power

City manager Vince Pastue remains optimistic about a Dec. 16 opening.

The boards are up, the generator stands ready, and the Riley Park Ice Rink in downtown Farmington is waiting for one thing: power.

City manager Vince Pastue said Friday that the city is working with DTE Energy to determine the status of a Michigan Dept. of Transportation permit required for the power company to tunnel under Grand River and bring electrical service to the site.

"We're trying to figure out what's going on," Pastue said. "We submitted the application weeks ago."

He said he remains optimistic that the rink will be open by Dec. 16, as officials originally anticipated.
