Family Fun Day, Mad Science Show Benefit Farmington Ice Rink

The Oct. 12 event happens during the Farmington Farmers and Artisans Market.

Mad Science of Detroit will be just one act in a day filled with family fun Oct. 12, to raise funds and awareness for an ice rink slated to be installed this winter downtown Farmington's Riley Park

“The Farmington Farmers and Artisans Market will be going on at the same time just a few yards away from the Family Day Benefit, so there is something of everyone of all ages,” said Annette Knowles, Farmington Downtown Development Authority (DDA) executive director. “Even the Mad Science show is fun for all ages.”

In Up, Up and Away, Mad Scientist Thermo Thad introduces the principles of air and pressure. Hot air balloons, vortex generators and even a hovercraft will help children understand the power of air. The show includes audience participation – audience volunteers might help perform a "magic" trick where ropes are placed into a bag and magically become tied or help shoot toilet paper across the crowd with the help of air pressure.

Tickets are $7 per person, with $5 from each ticket benefitting the ice rink. The show will be held at the Farmington Civic Theater at 1 p.m. Purchase tickets at the Farmington DDA office, 33316 Grand River, and at the Farmington Farmers & Artisans Market on Saturdays.

Before the show, from 9:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m., kids can enjoy ice fishing, a hockey shot competition, a snow ball toss and more, all for only $2.

Anyone interested in volunteering for this event should contact the DDA office at 248-473-7276 or write to volunteer@DowntownFarmington.org.
