Farmington Area Goodfellows Applications for Assistance Available

Here's how you can get help, or how you can help others, through this local charity.

Applications are open through Nov. 30 for families and seniors who need help with food and gifts this holiday season. 

Farmington Area Goodfellows, an organization that strives to ensure no child or senior in Farmington and Farmington Hills goes without a Christmas, has posted forms at farmingtonareagoodfellows.org. Anyone who is unable to print that application may request one by writing to fagoodfellows@gmail.com or calling 248-871-2848 with name, address and telephone number. 

A number of events have been scheduled to raise funds and collect food and gifts for the annual drive, which concludes with a distribution day on Dec. 15:

Evening of Giving Thanks

Held Nov. 2, 6 p.m., at Longacre House in Farmington Hills. Admission is a $25 contribution. Includes hors d'oeuvres and a cash bar. Donations of canned/boxed meals, soups, chili, meats and pastas will be welcomed.

Farmington Civic Theater Free Movie Day

Enjoy a free movie Dec. 1, 10 a.m.-3 p.m., during the downtown Farmington Holly Days celebration. A donation of cash, canned goods or toys is requested.

Farmington Public Schools food drive

Nov. 5-21. Donation bins will be placed at all public schools in Farmington and Farmington Hills. 

Battle of the Middles

Teachers from Dunckel Middle School and Warner Upper Elementary go up against teachers from Power Upper Elementary and East Middle School on the Farmington High basketball court on Dec. 14, 5:45 p.m.-8 p.m. Over the past seven years, this event has raised more than $20,000.
